American Invasion of Friends 2015 - Fred's Layout Standard Gauge

Friday's Invasion Session - Standard Gauge

The 2015 version of the American Invasion of Friends arrived Fred's place on the Friday where standard gauge operations took place.  Narrow gauge would be the next day.

We all gathered for the traditional group photo!

Diesel engines were found around the layout in abundance including this beauty brought in from Ohio by Gary.

We spot a CP diesel working the industries just outside Craig Leigh.

This beautiful Southern unit is working the industries at Ironwood.

Steve and I assisted Gary on the 301.  This train terminates in Nelson Yard where it becomes the 311 and heads all the way to Firgrove...thus traversing the entire railroad.

A CN train in Peter's Pond.

Steve and Gary.

Me with Gary.

The view from the end of the peninsula at Spruce shows just how expansive this railroad is.

Chris, Paul and Gary chatting at Ironwood.

While Paul brings his train to a station stop.

The colours are funny as we traverse the bridge to the east of Nelson Yard.

Ah...that's better!

A great looking Southern road switcher sits across from a handsome steamer.

Ken's the yardmaster at Nelson on this day.

Our train rounds the big curve on its approach to Nelson Yard.

We find ourselves later in Peter's Pond.

Where Steve handles the work at Cedar Rock.  It's a hive of activity in the distance.

Ken and fellow yardmaster, Henk, discuss the next duty while Bob looks on.

A CN switcher at Bell.

We arrive on track 4 as another crew occupies track 3.

We've reached the end of the line at Firgrove.

Time to turn the diesel on the armstrong.

We're now turned.  Yes, Gary's unit runs long hood forward.

CP just outside Firgrove.

My own diesel working the yard at Glen Hammond.

Ken and Gary sharing stories.

Rick and Henk do likewise.

The dispatch board.

Chris gives everyone the "thumbs up" just before lunch.

That's a mighty fine ale ya got there, Chris!

CN and CP at Craig Leigh.

The D&H too!

Love the green and gold of the Canadian National.

The maroon and grey of the CP also catches the eye.

Fred's dome car.

Doug, Jim and Sue outside the dispatcher's booth.

Steve and I later team up to run the 302/312 the entire length of the garden in an eastbound direction.

Rick and Jan at Bellamy.

Taking the crossing.

We meet them at Mercer.

Rounding the bend between Spruce and Ironwood.

While a young lad runs the Christmas Special by Watkins.

This little puppy was spotted in Craig Leigh.

The Southern is climbing westbound into Bell.

A little display for Fred.

Indeed, a beauty.

Henk's grandson is a true operator!

I hope you enjoyed this account of Diesel Day at Fred's for the 2015 Invasion of American Friends.
Have a great day!  Mike Hamer, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
